The Yoga Loft Storybook: Marisa Colabuono
Why/When/Where did you start practicing yoga?
I first tried yoga in high school- so around the year 2000- but never really got deep into practice. I never found a community and I always seemed to get distracted by life or other interests. Then a little over a year ago I decided to jump back in and a friend of mine is a Yoga Loft regular and suggested i try her Sunday morning class. I did, and have been practicing regularly since. I am so glad I made the decision to do this and didn't talk myself out of taking time just for myself. I don’t see myself stopping any time soon- or ever for that matter. I have been very happy at the yoga loft- I love that it is small and has such a welcoming and un-intimidating atmosphere.
How has yoga changed/influenced your life?
I think regular practice has helped me to be a much calmer and patient person — also physically stronger! The last few years have been full of changes for me and my family, and I feel that my practice has helped me to come to terms with the recent loss and hardship in my family. I have become much better at self reflection, acceptance, and forgiveness- though it is a constant and on-going process.
On a more positive note, I have a 2 year old, who loves “yago,” and am expecting my second in March. Needless to say, I am very appreciative of the personal time I get on my mat, and again for how yoga has helped me to find calm and patience when I need it!
What has been your experience practicing at The Yoga Loft?
As I mentioned before, I love the atmosphere at the Yoga Loft. I find the environment inviting and comfortable. I have definitely experienced discomfort in other studios/gyms and am so glad that we have the Yoga Loft in town! I love the variety of instructors and classes — though my favorites are Thursday night and Sunday morning.
Anything else you wish to share about your yoga journey?
Just to say to others that may have a hard time committing to taking time that is JUST FOR YOU, do it! You won’t regret it. Try yoga!
