Yoga and Mobility for Lower Back Health

Yoga and Mobility for Lower Back Health

Saturday, March 30, 2024

11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

$35 | in studio

Some 80% of adults are going to experience back pain in their lifetime. Yoga and other mobility movements can be used to address the problem.

While back pain causation is typically holistic, meaning there are not only physical but also mental/emotional and even spiritual components, this workshop will focus on the physical work towards relieving this kind of pain or discomfort.

We will conclude the workshop with a meditation on patience and nurturance so we can tune in to our bodies response to our work.

What you’ll learn:

  • The holistic view of lower back pain

  • Exercises and poses/stretches used to help reduce pain

  • Exercises and poses/stretches aimed at improving lower back health and strength

About Tim:

“I discovered the yogic path at the age of forty. I was looking for an all-inclusive or holistic practice that would address every area of my life. Like most of us in the west, it started with the physical aspect of my experience but it soon expanded to the mental, emotional, and spiritual parts of my life. There are 5000+ years of efficacy that supports the power of this practice; this science. Swami Rama calls us to use a "reasoned faith" in our approach to our yoga practice and our life. For me, this means that you don't simply give up your critical inquiry and the associated skepticism. You apply your reason to very personal practice and you use faith to get you through the bits that you can't currently comprehend. If all you really want is a workout, a stretch, or some nice hands-on adjustments and good chocolate, that’s awesome! You can find that in yoga, but there is so much more.”

Tim's teaching emphasizes the primacy of breath, the cultivation of a moving meditative state, stability, enduring strength, and function over form. He considers sound, and silence, to be a key part of his classes as well as a sense of humor for the tough bits. He encourages his students to practice self-compassion while on the mat and a whole-hearted approach to living beyond it.

Tim's study of yoga started in the Ashtanga/Vinyasa tradition but soon widened to incorporate learning from many styles of meditation and movement. He feels especially aligned with the traditions of Himalayan Institute and Viniyoga. He is certified E-RYT with well over 1000 hours of formal training in yoga, meditation, shamanism, mantra and other approaches to human movement and health. He is also a certified personal fitness coach and health coach. His formal study of the body/mind connection is ongoing and ever-expanding. Find Tim on Facebook and Instagram.
